AGR: Govt seeks SC nod to grant 20 yrs to telcos

The Centre on Monday sought the Supreme Court’s approval to grant 20 years’ time to telecom companies to pay in instalments Rs 1.69 lakh crore on account of adjusted gross revenue (AGR), saying the entire economy would be adversely impacted if telecom service providers are not granted enough time to pay the dues.

Flipkart probe: E-vendor group files caveat in SC

Following the NCLAT order last week to begin a probe into Flipkart for abuse of its dominant position, the All India Online Vendors Association (AIOVA) has filed a caveat in the SC against the Walmart-owned e-tailer. The move by AIOVA, the group representing small e-vendors, comes in anticipation of Flipkart challenging the NCLAT order in the SC.

DoT orders telecom companies to clear dues by midnight

The department of telecom (DoT) on Friday ordered Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and others to pay their AGR (adjusted gross revenue) dues by 11:59 pm Friday. The order comes just hours after the SC issued notice to the companies and their directors to explain why contempt proceedings shouldn’t be initiated against them for not paying AGR of Rs 1.47 lakh crore.

Non-telecom PSUs have no dues: Dharmendra Pradhan

Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan blamed “communication gap” for the department of telecom demanding Rs 3 lakh crore in dues from non-telecom PSUs such as GAIL, Oil India Ltd and PowerGrid and said these companies do not owe anything to the govt on this count. “We feel there should be no impact (of the Oct 24, 2019 SC ruling) on these companies,” the minister said.
