Estonian authorities banned Russians from obtaining residence permits and study visas

Short-term employment of citizens of Russia and Belarus can be issued in Estonia only if they have a valid visa issued by Tallinn

obtaining a temporary residence permit or visa for the purpose of studying in Estonia, the corresponding sanction was approved by the Estonian government.

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu said that the continued imposition of sanctions against Russia “is essential to ensure relentless pressure on the country.” If the sanctions help to stop Russia, then, in his words, this will “positively affect the security of Estonia.”

Short-term employment of citizens of Russia and Belarus with a residence permit issued by another Member State will no longer be registered, and therefore they will not be able to additionally apply for a long-term visa for short-term employment.

“With With this amendment, we will exclude scenarios in which a short-stay Schengen visa is applied, for example for tourism purposes, from another [EU] Member State in order to circumvent existing sanctions,— added by Reinsalu.

Earlier in Finland, the main political parties of the Parliament— Social Democratic and Coalition,— as well as “True Finns” and “Finland Center” advocated the termination of the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens.
