Kyiv intends to do this within three to six weeks, the US Congress reported

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky intends to return the territories lost after the start of the Russian operation within three to six weeks, including southern, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith told Politico.

Smith was among the delegates who visited Kyiv last week. Speaking about the military plans of the Ukrainian president, Smith specified that he voiced them during the message addressed to the delegates.

According to a member of the House of Representatives, the Ukrainian authorities said they want to conclude a peace agreement with Moscow, but first they must regain the territories lost after February 24. “Help them now as much as you can. The next three to six weeks will be critical,” he conveyed the main message of Zelensky. According to him, Kyiv believes that it will be much more difficult to do this later.

As Politico notes, winter is approaching and lower temperatures, as well as harsh conditions, will slow down the conduct of hostilities to “wars of attrition”, which basically “will play into the hands of Russia”.

Since the beginning of the operation in Ukraine, the Kherson region, most of the Zaporozhye region and part of the Kharkov region, as well as the territories recognized Moscow part of the LPR and DPR.

A possible counter-offensive in Kyiv has been discussed since May. Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president's office, then noted that this was possible if Ukraine accumulated a large amount of Western weapons, which would be enough to rearm several brigades.

In mid-July, two months later, Arestovich emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine should gain an advantage in combat armored vehicles and air defense systems. Due to the lack of these weapons, Kyiv’s forces cannot launch a counteroffensive, he noted.

At the same time, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov stated that Zelensky had already given the order to retake the southern territories. “We understand that politically this is very necessary for our country. The President instructed the Supreme Military Commander to develop a plan, — he explained. The head of the Defense Ministry added that Ukraine was gathering “millions of troops” to achieve this goal.

Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized Western countries for supplying weapons to Ukraine and warned that such shipments would be considered a legitimate target. According to the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, the supplies will not change the parameters of the special operation, but will bring “more suffering” to Ukraine.
