In November 2020, the Zavolzhsky District Court of Yaroslavl sentenced 11 employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service who beat Makarov to real terms from three years to four years and three months.
As for the leadership of IK-1, two of them were unexpectedly acquitted in connection with no crime event. They turned out to be former acting head of IK-1 Dmitry Nikolaev and his deputy Igit Mikhailov.
Criminal case of FSIN officer Sergey Efremov was allocated to a separate proceeding, since he admitted his guilt and expressed a desire to cooperate with the investigation. In early 2020, the court sentenced him to four years in prison.
