Russia will help Ukrainians get rid of the “absolutely anti-people and anti-historical regime”, both peoples will continue to live together, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting with permanent representatives of the countries— members of the League of Arab States.

«We feel sorry for the Ukrainian people, who deserve much more, we feel sorry for Ukrainian history, which is crumbling before our eyes. And we feel sorry for those who succumbed to the state propaganda of the Kyiv regime <…>, aimed at making Ukraine the eternal enemy of Russia»,— Lavrov said.

At the same time, he stressed that such attempts are futile.

President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly called Russians and Ukrainians one people. In particular, he wrote about this in the article “On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians”, published last summer in Russian and Ukrainian. In it, he argued that Russia has never been and never will be “anti-Ukraine”, and expressed confidence that “the true sovereignty of Ukraine is possible precisely in partnership with Russia.” In early March of this year, after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, Putin confirmed his thesis. “I will never give up my conviction that Russians and Ukrainians— this is one people,»,— he emphasized.

On February 24, the Russian president announced the start of a military operation in the neighboring country with the aim of “protecting people who have been subjected to abuse, genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years,” as well as “demilitarization and denazification.” At the same time, he argued that Moscow was not going to occupy Ukrainian territories and impose anything on anyone by force.

The Kremlin stated that Ukraine— “hostile country” that “nurtured those who walk around with a Nazi swastika” and “made Russian a secondary language.” Russia launched a military operation due to the fact that “anti-Russia” was made from Ukraine and “center of hatred” to her, explained the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov. At the same time, he called the Ukrainians themselves “very talented, peaceful people.” and “kindred people” who have been “fooled” for a long time.
