What kind of nuclear submarine “Generalissimo Suvorov” was first tested at sea?
The nuclear submarine (NPS) “Generalissimo Suvorov”, the second mass-produced submarine missile carrier, built according to the modernized project 955A “Borey-A”, entered the factory tests at one of the Northern Fleet training grounds in the White Sea. Earlier it was reported that the submarine should enter the combat structure of the Russian fleet in December 2022, and the nuclear-powered ship will serve in the Pacific Fleet.
“Generalissimo Suvorov” was laid down on December 26, 2014, in January 2022 the submarine was launched, during the factory tests the seaworthiness and operational qualities of the submarine will be checked for compliance with the design characteristics. How long such tests can last is not reported. In the fall of 2022, the submarine will begin to carry out comprehensive mooring and factory sea trials at sea, after which the cruiser will undergo a full cycle of state tests with practical testing of all weapons systems.
Four with a plus
< p>“Generalissimo Suvorov” — nuclear submarine strategic cruiser. It belongs to the fourth generation of submarines of the improved Borey-A project. (Designer — St. Petersburg Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering «Rubin»). Fundamentally new technical solutions have been implemented in the project, equipment has been improved, visibility has been reduced, safety has been improved, and a set of works on import substitution has been completed. Submarines are distinguished by good stealth, modern means of communication and detection. The ship's survivability has been increased. A distinctive feature of the new Borey-A missile carriers is lies in the fact that during their construction, backlogs from previous nuclear submarine models are not used, which does not limit the developer and allows you to fully unlock the potential of the 4th generation.
Silent and very dangerous
Submarines built according to project 955A “Borey-A” quiet, have good maneuverability, increased ability to hold at depth and have a more advanced system of control of airborne weapons. Submarine displacement — 24 thousand tons, immersion depth — 480 meters, crew — 107 people, autonomy — 90 days, underwater speed — 29 knots.
Arsenal at “Boreev” quite impressive. In addition to 6 torpedo tubes of 533 mm caliber, each such boat is equipped with torpedo missiles and an anti-aircraft missile system. Main caliber — marine «Mace» — there are 16 of them on the boat. This three-stage solid-propellant missile carries six individually targetable warheads. At a distance of about 10 thousand km. “Mace” can hit the target with an error of 120-350 meters. Considering that a naval missile is a carrier of a nuclear charge, this is quite a bit.
A win-win streak
“Generalissimo Suvorov” and other 995A ships will replace the boats of the 667BDRM and 667BDR projects, the service life of which will come to an end in 2030. The Russian Navy has three submarines of the basic project 955 — “Yuri Dolgoruky”, “Vladimir Monomakh” and “Alexander Nevsky”. Two submarines belong to the upgraded project 955A. This is the lead ship “Prince Vladimir” — was built and transferred to the fleet on June 12, 2020, as well as the first serial missile carrier Knyaz Oleg, which was transferred to the Navy on December 21, 2021. Four more submarines with the letter “A” — “Emperor Alexander III”, “Prince Pozharsky”, “Dmitry Donskoy” and “Prince Potemkin” – are now at different stages of construction.
It was previously reported that in 2022 the Russian Navy will receive eight surface ships and submarines. It is not specified which ships and submarines the Navy will receive, it is known that it will be equipment of “different types and purposes”.
