According to Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq, a joint coordination center for the export of grain from Ukraine can be created in about two weeks

The mechanism for the safe export of grain from the ports of Ukraine will work in about two weeks, said at briefing, Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq.

“We intend to establish this body (Joint Focal Point.— RBC) as soon as possible, but the Secretary General believes that we will be able to do this in about two weeks,— he said.

According to Haq, António Guterres called the “grocery deal” the most significant achievement of his term in office.

Since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, Kyiv and Western countries have accused Moscow of obstructing the export of Ukrainian grain. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the Russian authorities are using hunger and grain to increase influence. The Kremlin denied this and pointed out that the Ukrainian military themselves mined the exits from the ports. As a result, according to various estimates, from 4.5 million to 20 million tons of wheat and corn accumulated there.

On July 15, the delegations of Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN held talks in Istanbul and agreed to establish a coordinating center for the export of grain there. The agreement was signed by the parties on July 22. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who signed the document, the memorandum involves the UN's involvement in lifting restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets. The second signed agreement defines the algorithm for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products from the Black Sea ports controlled by Kyiv.

Shoigu added that Russia has committed itself not to take advantage of the fact that Ukrainian ports will be cleared and opened.

According to the UN, special inspection teams will monitor the shipment of grain in three ports— Odessa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny. At the same time, Ukrainian pilot ships will guide ships through the mined Black Sea, after which they will exit through the Bosphorus along an agreed corridor.

According to the New York Times, grain from Ukrainian ports, according to a deal with Russia, will be delivered to Turkey along safe cleared routes, and from there they will begin to distribute to buyers around the world. The newspaper also reported that ships of the Turkish Navy and Coast Guard will escort ships with grain to international waters.
