The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill that allows civilians who participated in the special operation in Ukraine to be given the status of combat veterans. This is stated on the website of the lower house of parliament.

“We are talking about the civilian personnel of the Armed Forces, repair teams, doctors and other specialists. After the adoption of amendments to the law on veterans, they will be able to receive social support measures— tax and other benefits»,— explained State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.

He proposed to finalize the bill for the second reading, including among those who can receive the status of veterans, war correspondents. “It is important that they also be protected,” — said Volodin.

The explanatory note notes that so far only those civilians seconded to the special operation zone who received “injuries, concussions or injuries or will be awarded medals for participating in such hostilities.

In late March, President Vladimir Putin signed a law that gave the status of veterans performing the tasks of a military operation in Ukraine. Prior to this, only participants in military operations in Afghanistan, Chechnya and Syria were considered veterans of hostilities in Russia.
