President Vladimir Putin awarded the title of Hero of Russia to test cosmonaut Ivan Vagner. The decree is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.
“For the courage and heroism shown during a long-term space flight on the International Space Station, to award the title of Hero of the Russian Federation to Ivan Viktorovich Wagner”,— the message says.
The cosmonaut was also awarded the honorary title of pilot-cosmonaut of Russia.
Ivan Vagner made one space flight on April 9, 2020 on the Soyuz MS-16 manned spacecraft. The flight duration was 195 days 18 hours 49 minutes. The spacecraft's descent module landed on the territory of Kazakhstan southeast of the city of Dzhezkazgan on October 22.
Wagner was born on July 10, 1985 in the village of Severoonezhsk, Plesetsk District, Arkhangelsk Region. From 2002 to 2008 he studied at the Baltic State Technical University Voenmehim. D.F. Ustinov. He received a master's degree in engineering and technology in the field of “aircraft and rocket science”.
From November 2010, Vagner began training as a candidate for test cosmonauts on the basis of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NII TsPK im. Yu.A. Gagarin ". In January 2011, he was transferred to the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps.
